Sunset Over The Divide
Sunset Over The Divide
By Jim Slavik
Sunset Over The Divide is a deeply luminous, expressive, and visually captivating 12x12in. pastel painting on paper by artist Jim Slavik. This square mountain landscape captures a brilliant, fiery sunset sinking behind distant continental peaks, casting a warm orange glow down through a winding river valley. The piece transforms a dramatic alpine wilderness vista into a complex and celebratory contemporary landscape work.
Slavik displays an exceptional command of soft pastel, using velvety pigment application to capture radiant light and atmospheric depth. The setting sun ignites the horizon in brilliant tangerine, crimson, and gold, reflecting intensely along the rippling river that cuts through dark, purple-hued foothills. Above, a sweeping canopy of clouds caught in dusk light transitions from warm yellow highlights into rich teal, cobalt, and indigo sky. Beautifully presented with a slate blue mat inside a dark, textured wooden frame, this commanding statement piece effortlessly bridges classic Western mountain art with modern Impressionist color theory.
