Reflection On Naylor Lake
Reflection On Naylor Lake
By Rebecca Toms
Reflection On Naylor Lake is a deeply luminous, evocative, and visually expansive 18x36in. oil painting on birch panel by artist Rebecca Toms. This panoramic alpine landscape captures a breathtaking high-country sunset, featuring sweeping mountain slopes cradling the calm waters of Naylor Lake. Beneath a brilliant, cloud-dappled sky ignited by dusk, the piece transforms a serene Colorado wilderness vista into a complex and celebratory contemporary landscape work.
Toms displays a sophisticated command of light, color harmony, and expressive brushwork. The sky bursts with fiery, impasto strokes of brilliant orange, salmon, and peach, which reflect vividly across the mirror-like surface of the lake below. Surrounding the water, rolling ridges and alpine tundra transition from sunlit mossy greens and golds to rich indigo shadows, creating a compelling sense of spatial depth and mood. Housed in a reclaimed walnut wooden floater frame, this commanding statement piece effortlessly bridges classic Impressionist sunset studies with modern, expressive Western landscape painting.
